Welcome to Greenbelt
I have long been enthralled by the diversity of faiths, people, opinions and art forms that Greenbelt festival houses each year in Cheltenham, UK. This year I decided to take my new camera along and film a little of the festival. Half-way through, it occurred to me that Greenbelt is a space of welcome, generosity and humour. I decided to use this as a theme for my film in an attempt to capture the vibrancy of spirit that draws so many together year after year.
It was all conceived fairly last minute and the wobbliness of the footage betrays the fact that I’m still lacking the skills and equipment for a slicker production, but I’m slowly getting there. Any faults in representation, narrative and diversity are very much my own and due to my haste in putting it together.
Check out Tom’s lovely film from Greenbelt Festival!
Greenbelt Festival 2012

A few of you have been asking when I’m playing at Greenbelt Festival this year, so here are the details!
- Friday: 19.10 - 19.50 // The Shed (youth venue)
- Friday: 22.30 // Village Screen (introducing the showing of Seasons, the documentary about the making of New Season)
- Saturday: I’ll be compering The Canopy stage all day, which has an incredible line-up!
- Saturday: 19.00 - 19.40 // The Canopy (full solo set)
- Monday: 23.00 - 1.00 // Centaur (Last Orders)
Sadly I don’t have my band with me this year, but if you have any requests for songs that I should play, let me know on Facebook or Twitter, or send me an email - lukeleighfield [at] gmail [dot] com.
Also, I wrote a blog about my top five picks for this year’s festival. Check it out and make sure you don’t miss any of them!
Okay, see you all in a week. I can’t wait to be back in England!

My cover of ‘Teenage Dream’ by Katy Perry live at Greenbelt. It’s a crying shame that the guitar solo isn’t louder in the mix, and that you don’t get to see any shots of my sexy band (except for Robin’s infamous bass face), and that my voice is tired, but I hope you enjoy it anyway.
Thanks to whoever took the video!
Greenbelt 2011.
Last weekend I was hanging out and playing at Greenbelt Festival in Cheltenham. It was one of the most fun weekends of my life. I was asked to be the Last Orders house band, which meant that I got to play a couple of my songs to around 2,000 people every night at this late night chat/music show-type-thing. 2,000 people. I normally play gigs to around 20 people. So thank you for having me, Last Orders team. And thank you for asking us to play a Katy Perry cover every night for three nights in a row. I love Katy Perry.
I also got to chat to Rob Bell, duet with Duke Special, and play a full-length set on the Monday to 300 people with loads of you singing along. Again, thank you Greenbelt. I don’t get to do that every weekend. It was very humbling indeed and a lot of fun. A LOT.
Lastly, I wanted to thank my band for joining me for the weekend: Ben Price (guitar), Duncan Howsley (guitar), Robin Pearkes (bass), Simon Bray (drums), Joe Rodwell (trumpet), Steven Troughton (trumpet) and Jon Spanyol (trombone). They are all lovely, talented young men and you should definitely say hello to them all.
And that’s it for another year. See you at #gb12!

Video of me joining Duke Special onstage to tinkle over his song, ‘Everybody Wants A Little Something’. I warned him beforehand that I can’t improvise or play jazz. BUT I TRIED MY HARDEST.
I love the Duke and you can listen to his first album (my favourite) on Spotify here.

Greenbelt Festival
I’ve been scheduled to play at Greenbelt Festival for a few months now but I found out this week that I’m now going to be opening the main stage on Saturday night in addition to my other slots, which is just super. Apparently the capacity is around 10,000 people. I’m generally lucky to play to ten people. Anyway, here are the details for all of my appearances at Greenbelt this year:
Saturday 28th August - Main Stage - 6:30 (full band)
Saturday 28th August - Underground Stage - 8:30 (full band)
Sunday 29th August - Youth Event - 6:30 (solo)
So if you’re going to Greenbelt and you like me, then it looks like you’re in for a treat.
