Have You Got Heart?
Thanks to Timehop for reminding me that we shot this video one year ago today! And what a fun day it was.
UK Full-Band Tour!
My UK tour starts next week! I’ll be taking to the stage with seven handsome men, playing songs from my new album New Season and my ‘hit’ album Have You Got Heart?
I don’t get to play many shows as an eight-piece, so these gigs should be pretty special. Don’t miss out! Bring your friends!

Luke Leighfield // Have You Got Heart? // Part One
Last Sunday I spent the whole day with a group of great friends assisting Duncan Howsley and Charlotte Knight film Luke Leighfield’s new video for his killer track, Have You Got Heart?
It was a bit of a location jumping epic and I’m very excited to see the final result. I took a few pics from each location, which I’ll post up here and above.
You can download Luke’s last album, featuring HYGH, for free (or whatever you’d like to pay, a little generosity never goes amiss) here: http://lukeleighfield.bandcamp.com/
Tom took some killer photos at the ‘Have You Got Heart?’ video shoot. Here’s the first collection - more to come!
Have You Got Heart? - live at Greenbelt Festival.
Have You Got Heart? - The Video.
Hey chums. This Sunday (11th September) I’m shooting a video for ‘Have You Got Heart?’ with my friend, Duncan, and I need your help. I’m looking for people to be in crowd scenes from 15.45 - 22.00 at two locations in Southampton.
There’s no money available because I’m not really very rich, but if you do take part I’ll hook you up with some discount codes for my shop and buy you some sweets or something. Everyone there will be really friendly and you will probably have a nice day. Probably.
So, if you want to take part, please email me on luke@lukeleighfield.com with your name, age and mobile number, and I’ll get back to you with locations and more details right away!
Thank you.
Luke
P.S. The video probably won’t be anything like the above picture.
Rob Bell is one of the world’s 100 most influential people, according to TIME Magazine. He also loves a bit of Luke Leighfield!
If you haven’t heard of Rob Bell, he’s an Evangelical pastor who recently kicked up a storm with his latest book, Love Wins. I went to hear him speak in Southampton a year ago about his last book, Drops Like Stars. At the end of the night I went to get my book signed and realised that I had a copy of Have You Got Heart? in my bag, so I thought I’d give it to him, assuming that he’d probably never get the time to listen to it.
This Tuesday I went to hear him speak about Love Wins in Cheltenham, and when my lovely photographer pal Tom Price went to get his book signed, he got chatting to Rob about how we’d seen him in Southampton the year before. Anyway, it turns out that Rob remembered us, and not only had he listened to my CD, but he proceeded to sing Tom an excerpt of I Won’t Look Back to prove it! Apparently it’s a family favourite and the CD is currently residing in his wife’s car! He said he’d get it back from her when he returned to the US.
If you want to find out more about why Rob Bell is the causing such a stir at the moment, you should read this article entitled Is Hell Dead? on TIME.com. You should also check out Velvet Elvis, arguably Bell’s biggest success to date, and one of my all-time favourite books.
GIDDY FANBOY BLOG OVER!
P.S. Things got weirder when I stopped for a coffee at Membury services on the way home on Tuesday. The guy who served me didn’t say that he recognised me then wrote on my Facebook page saying that he’d just served me, which I saw when I got home. I felt like a superstar on Tuesday.
VOTE NOW!
I’m making a new music video in a month or so and I’d love for you to vote on which song from Have You Got Heart? you’d like to see brought to visual life. Place your votes by clicking on that there link above.
Four new reviews of ‘Have You Got Heart?’
I just tracked down four reviews of my album in which I get compared to Chris Martin, The Darkness, Ben Folds, Billy Joel and ACDC. They’re posted below for your enjoyment:
From Old Age Hipster:
Have You Got Heart? An interesting question for sure and one neatly answered by its originator Mr Leighfield through his debut album. See the heart beating at the very core of his recent album (neatly doubling here as the title of this post in case you were wondering) is one of pure rock.
Luckily, rather than just shut these voices out, Leighfield has let them flourish and used them to expand his singer songwriter template and created a sound as custom built for a nearby stadium as it is your favourite singer songwriter cafe. Kind of akin to Chris Martin fronting the Darkness.
Of course this should be more than enough to send you scurrying a loooong way away but dont because to be scared would be shutting yourself away from the intricate musicianship and interesting lyrics that underpin this whole operation.
A genuinely interesting album and one that I heartily suggest you check out by heading over to Leighfields page at Bandcamp.
From Pop Goes The Weevil:
Ever wondered what Coldplay might sound like if they abandoned their current ‘let’s be Bono’ mission and went off on an ACDC tangeant instead? Well in truth it probably sounds a lot like Luke Leighfield. Leighfield’s new album ‘have you got heart’ pulls of a tricky balancing across its length - wielding giddy stadium drums and wailing guitars on one hand whilst creating delicate piano led melodies on the other.
As bewildering as it might sound there’s a clever conundrum going on here - is he taking the impersonal mass appeal of wembley bound rockers into an infinitely more personal place? Or merely giving the singer songwriter a rocket up its preverbial? In reality its both and all told it sets expectations for Mr Double-L extremely high for the coming months.
From Heads Up:
Drawing as much influence from literate singer songwriters like Ben Folds as he does power rock, Leighfield has created a debut album (Have You Got Heart) that bewitches as much as it does suprise throughout its 10 tracks.
Rolling some stadium sized drums in alongside the electric guitars that twist themselves around Leighfield’s fluttering piano, the disparate elements somehow conjur some kind of alchemy to create an interesting bedrock for the bookish singer songwriter tales that sit atop them.
Well worth a listen.
From 2 Turntables and a Microphone:
Southampton-based Ulsterman Luke Leighfield plays a piano and has a knack of crafting everyman pop choruses. So far, so Ben Folds. Where Leighfield does pique the interest however is the way - unlike the aforementioned Folds - he does so whilst still retaining a sense of imtimacy to a set of songs whose sense of fun and sheer rock n roll glee could well undermime the whole thing.
The album “Have you got heart” is available now on Bandcamp (free download) and it’s well worth a listen - by turns sensitive and whimsical and cocky and carefree - it’s a genuinely unique listen in lots of ways - There arent many records arriving through my door as unafraid of their Billy Joel-y influences, but when presented with such conviction and enjoyment you just cant resist being swept along in the geek chic euphoria. It should be stated meanwhile that the attention to detail throughout however reassures us that there is a serious hand at work here and with songs like these - long may it continue to do so.
